I own both the medium and medium mini water brush, and it’s a good product. It works very well with ink and watercolor, but can also be used for gouache. If you put pressure on it while painting you will get a constant flow of water which makes it useful for washes and blending. The brush itself is great. I have used it a lot and yet I haven’t had problems with the strands falling out. The plastic feels sturdy in the hand as well and the cap can be attached to the end of the pen.

The pentel waterbrush is acceptable for traveling and if you are in need of a quick sketch. But if you want a slightly higher quality brush for about the same price, get a Sekura koi

These are good waterbrushes.Especially for hiking with a paint kit, urban sketching, plein aire, etc.Have reviewed them before.Depends on whether you go more for better control or ease and convenience of use.These are in the super easy to use category, but with enough control that they are not prone to leaking in your kit, or overwetting your paper against your wishes. They are also easy to troubleshoot, for the rare times that becomes necessary.There are better brands for control specifically. (Niji, for one. And I have not used but have heard Caran D’Ache may be another). I use both kinds and keep both around.They last a long while. I do replace and order more when the time comes, so clearly a tool i continue tonuse and enjoy.Old prescription bottles make great water holders for hiking kits. They don’t spill even when you drop them or hold them upside down. Since discovering that, i also make more use of regular travel brushes. But that’s for a different review. 😉 I still bring these on outings and still use them.
